For this you need to have a device manager in your Android phone, even before the phone is locked.
This feature automatically becomes active when you set up an Android handset through your Gmail account.

However, you can also activate this by going to Google Security Options within your mobile.
Step 1
Go to google.com/android/devicemanager webpage in the computer or on any mobile phone’s internet browser.
